At the European Economic Forum 2025, Gaya Herrington — Vice President Sustainability Research at Schneider Electric and member of the Club of Rome — challenged the assumptions that underpin today’s economic model.
In her keynote, she argued that long-term prosperity depends on aligning business activity with planetary and social limits. Resilience and profitability, she noted, do not stand in opposition to sustainability; they rely on it. Europe now has the opportunity to lead not by increasing consumption, but by redefining what success means in a world of finite resources.
